What changes the job in Galway

Kitchens from the 2000s, now 15 to 25 years old

29% of Galway homes were built between 2001 and 2010 (Ireland: 25%), so many still have the kitchen the house came with. Where the units are sound, a respray from €700 or new doors and a worktop for €1,350 to €3,600 is worth pricing before a new kitchen. Remodel or refresh sets out the choice.

Detached houses and bigger kitchens

59% of Galway homes are detached (Ireland: 41%), and 47% of people live outside the towns. A bigger room means longer runs of units and space for an island, which adds €2,000 to €5,000 on top of the kitchen. Leave 1200 mm to walk round it on every side. See kitchen layouts.

Apartments and smaller kitchens

12% of Galway homes are flats or apartments (Ireland: 13%). An apartment kitchen is usually one wall or a galley, so the cost is in the doors, the worktop and the appliances rather than the size. Check the management company's rules on working hours, lifts and the skip before a fitting date is booked.

New homes and one-off houses

1,473 new homes were finished in Galway in 2025, 536 of them one-off houses. In a self-build the kitchen goes in after the plastering, so bring the kitchen design to the builder before the first fix: the sink, hob and sockets then go where the kitchen needs them, first time.
